Friends of Canadian Media’s recommendations to the CRTC on the implementation of the Online Streaming Act
Friends of Canadian Media made a series of submissions to the CRTC as part of the CRTC’s first step towards the implementation of the Online Streaming Act. Our primary areas of focus were:
- That foreign online undertakings should provide a 5% contribution to original Canadian content as soon as possible and, importantly, the existing commitments of licensed Canadian broadcasters should remain status quo.
- That 2% of the 5% must go to the priority areas of local television and radio news.
- That urgent funding be provided to support Indigenous programming and programming from equity-seeking groups with 1% of the 5% being directed to these initiatives.
