FRIENDS wishes to congratulate Steven Guilbeault for his election to Parliament and his appointment as Minister of Canadian Heritage. FRIENDS also wishes to congratulate Navdeep Bains on his re-appointment as Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development.
These two portfolios are increasingly critical to the protection of Canada’s prosperity, identity, democracy, and independence.
During the election, a consensus emerged among the major parties that the special treatment which Canada confers upon Facebook, Google, YouTube, Netflix, and other Silicon Valley titans, must come to a swift and definitive end. It is now clear that Canadians will no longer tolerate a regime in which these companies continue to be exempt from Canadian taxation and regulation. The consequences for our democracy and economy are simply too great.
We look forward to working with Ministers Guilbeault and Bains as they work to convert their party’s election promises into tangible public policy.
